H've read this every day and every day and every hour you and your family, specialy my weet Brin Brin are in my prayer. Any time when I attend to visit you in your home here in Henderson, I had read on a beautiful tile decoration on the fireplace: "Because I Have Been Given Much"...that is wonderful.
Convalescing after a long and serious illness, Grace Noll Crowell penned the words on this beautiful hymn. According to Crowell, the hymn was written "in a sudden, glad up-rush of gratitude for my release from pain, recalling the many mercies that had been mine those long, hard days, and...remembering the love that had been around and about me ever."
Hymns like "Because I Have Been Given Much" remind us that our gratitude to God and other is best expressed not by what we say, but by how we live. As much hymns suggest, our expressions of thanks and praise to those who have blessed our lives are the beginning, not the end, of true gratitude.
Through recognizing the generosity of others and the goodness of God, it becomes easier for us to be generous and good ourselves. From the roots of simple gratitude grow a multitude of crowning virtues, including mercy, benevolence, and love. As we express our gratitude, not only in word but also in deed, we quickly discover that our happiness and contentment depend much less on our material possessions and much more on how well we recognize and appreciate all that we have.
President Joseph F. Smith wrote, "The spirit of gratitude is always pleasant and satisfying because it carries with it a sense of helpfulness to others; it begets love and friendship, and engenders divine influence. Gratitude is said to be the memory of the heart."
When our hearts are filled with grateful memories, our actions reflect the love that we have received and we begin to express our gratitude to God as described in the last verse of Crowell's hymn: "Because I have been blessed by thy great love, dear Lord, I'll share thy love again, according to thy word. I shall give love to those in need; I'll show that love by word and deed. Thus shall my thanks be thanks indeed."
Kristin, David, Tay, Jade, Brin Brin and...the coming litle girl..You are in our heart always, and we have are greatful for every one of you. We miss you.
